My brother’s Brevity comic was cancelled by the LA Times – a big blow for him, as it is his hometown paper, not to mention a major market. I got the following email from him:
Dear friends of “Brevity”,
On October 24th, the Los Angeles Times decided to drop our comic from their pages after less than a year. Newspapers will often bring a comic back if they hear from people supporting it. Please take a moment to let them know you will miss it, or that you think it’s funny, or you think there are other comics they could drop, or you think newspapers are out of touch with today’s humor.
There are several ways of doing this:
1. send an e-mail to calendar@latimes.com. If you write something elegant you think they should print, address it to calendar.letters@latimes.com
2. call them at (213) 237-5000 (press “5″ for editorial). Apparently, calling to register a complaint is really effective.
3. visit this link and leave reader feedback (choose “Calendar/Entertainment” from the pull-down menu):
You could even do all 3 things.
Pass this on to anyone you think might help bring “Brevity” back to the L.A. Times.
Thanks, and stay tuned…
Guy & Rodd
p.s. the comic can still be found at http://comics.com/comics/brevity.
Since he asked to pass this along, I’ll take it as permission to post it on my website. Please at least send an email to the LA Times editors, and post a comment on their website feedback. If you can spare the time and the cost of a phone call (unless, like me, you use VOIP), give the editors a call as well.
